Replenishing after baby

Postpartum recovery deserves more than six weeks. A gentler, longer view of restoring what was given.

Quiet morning light in a simple bedroom

Postpartum recovery does not end at six weeks. Pregnancy and lactation draw on iron, B12, choline, omega-3s, iodine, and overall energy reserves, and rebuilding those stores takes time and intention.

What I look at

  • Ferritin and a full iron panel, not hemoglobin alone
  • Thyroid function, including postpartum thyroiditis screening
  • Vitamin D, B12, and continued prenatal or postnatal support
  • Sleep, feeding demands, and realistic recovery expectations
  • Mood screening, with clear next steps when indicated

Nourishment over restriction

This is not the season for aggressive dieting. Adequate protein, minerals, and calories support milk supply, tissue repair, and mood stability far better than restriction does.

If mood symptoms feel heavy or persistent, that is a medical concern and deserves prompt attention, not patience.
